Good luck.
:)
When it comes to players in the u10 age group the natural "HUNGER" for the ball is a good thing. Here is a drill that I have used in the past at all age levels.
Keep in mind....
This is used to give players a VISUAL idea of what should be happening.
It is really not a GAME type drill.
1- put players on the field.
2- 2 players hold a SOFT rope that is about half the length of the field.
3- They move with the BALL.
If the ball move left, they move SLIGHTY left, if it moves towards the other
     goal they stay with it.
4- All players learn to "stay within the rope"
This teaches defense to push up when ball is away and forwards to recover faster.
It also helps keep players spread out on the field.
Here is a picture.

Players will not play in their areas of responsibility until they have excellent technique, confidence in their teammates, and can read the game. This will not happen in this or even the next few years.

My recommendation in the 7 vs. 7 game is to use the 2-2-2 system:
2 Backs 2 Midfielders 2 Forwards
This system allows your players to cover the depth, width and length of the field. All players are asked to be attackers when our team has the ball - so you are attacking with 6 players. And all players are asked to defend - so you will be defending with six players. Pretty good odds, eh?

Once the game gets started and you 'observe' strengths and weaknesses in the opposing team -then- make adjustments at half time. Adjustments, that you have practiced in previous sessions...!

Should the opponent be much stronger than your team. Then reinforcing the back line would be wise. Your system may read 3-Backs 2-Mids 1-Forward

Should the opponent be much weaker than your team. Adding to the front line would be a wise move. Your system may read 1-Back 2-Mids 3-Forward

Move your players around according to what you see on the field and what you have practiced. But, I suggest beginning with the 2-2-2 system and then watch them chase after the ball...not staying in the 2-2-2- shape. In time and with lots of practice (repetition) you may be able to get your U-10 girls to play this system properly - but, I doubt it...!

So, for now let them have FUN chasing after the ball and realize that in a few years they will be able to stay in their areas of responsibility. But, not until after they have learned their basic skills, not until after they are free of the ball and once they are able to read the game!
