I was talking to my wife the other day and I guess she realized that I was stressed because not only do I coach youth soccer but I coach football as well. She told me that she thinks that I should think about getting an assitant of some kind to get rid of the extra added bruden on my shoulders. I think if I were to get an assistant I would have more stress because I would then have to keep up with them. I don't have time for all that extra stuff.

I guess it would depend on the assistant - it can be very helpful to share all the duties that go along with coaching.  I don't know what your coaching style is but perhaps you need to have your team (players) help you out more.  Have them distribute the balls, set up your field, put up or take down nets, carry equipment from the car, etc.  If everyone helps, then it goes faster, plus it teaches them responsibility instead of just showing up to play. Hope you sort it all out and thanks for taking your time to coach- it is very rewarding and even if the kids don't tell you...they appreciate you doing it.

Having an assistant is WONDERFUL.
Even if they only chase balls or help set up cones and move goals.
I often ask several parents to help at the beginning.
Just make sure they understand that at game time, they must sit with the parents not on the coaches side.
This is also how many of our youth coaches get their start.

I have 2 teams and without an assistant I would be lost. When you're in the middle of the game and Bobby needs his shoes tied and Alex needs a tissue to blow his nose or Billy needs to got potty, it's nice to have someone to take care of that while you keep your eyes on what is going on during the game. My assistants help shagging balls, taking care of the personal needs(above mentioned) and keeping the peace on the sidelines. I also had an assistant that would time the games so that everyone would get fair playing time. As a coach I want to be able to focus on what is going on, on the field. I know many Coaches that put a lot of responsibility on their assistants that is really the Coaches job. If they wanted that much responsibility they would have their own team. It's nice to have them so you can focus on game instead of every detail on the sidelines.:)
