I have seen a alot of coaches be inconsistent when it came to their rules which confused the players. So not good, you have to have a flow of rules that don't often change.
If things run smoothly then you won't have too many angry parents in the stands going crazy and ready to kill you.
Inconsistency in setting, communicating, and enforcing reasonable team rules. Inconsistency in rules and enforcement kills morale and angers parents and players on either side of any problem or incident. If the rules go out and then change, or are not followed, parents and players question the coach's seriousness. Team rules that have clear line-of-sight traceability to the development, management, or safety of the team and its players. All the parents and players have to understand the rules and purposes they serve.
I've had parents argue to me the "Offside" rule. It's hard not to laugh, but it is a rule that makes soccer/futbol different from any other sport. I don't want to be the one explaining to them why their kid's goal didn't count. Ha! The kid understands why but the parent...
The offside rule has to be one of the hardest rules to comprehend and the best example of how to explaine it is really a short clip video - try this link and have your parents (and players) watch it - it will definitely help them visualize how it works.
